tactile souvenirs: a memory system
In my architectural approach to urban heritage, I decided to
focus on exploring personal memory as a way
to open conversations about social and environmental
history. I found small objects on the
site that I could remove: wrappers, receipts,
gutter clips. Among my explorations, I also
became curious about the textures and experiences
I could not take from the site, but could
study by rubbing, recording, and translating
sensory experiences into other transportable
languages.
Through this translation I designed small pavilions intended to cradle people, temporarily, and in such a way that reflects the tactile nature of my work using handmade paper for the section models and memory vehicle map. The products of this studio are derivative of my personal investigation of memory though small, tactile experiences and souvenirs.
